Technical Superintendent


Our client is currently recruiting for a Technical Superintendent. The role is on a permanent (staff) basis and is located in Nigeria. ROLE: To ensure the seaworthiness of vessels to meet company, charterer and class standards while delivering a continuous reduction of the annual maintenance budget by managing the planned maintenance activities, dry docking and hands on problem solving on technical issues for all Vessels. RESPONSIBILITIES: Liaison between Company and Vessel Management Company Acts as the first point-of-contact between Company and the vessel Technical Managers and interface on all technical and operational vessel matters. Review and approve every work scope and material requisition submitted by the Technical Managers Monitor defects and timely close out and collate weekly reports from the Vessel Manager. Ensure vessel meets Class, Marine and Charterer’s requirement. Support QHSE with timely planning of Class Surveys and inspections. Coordinate with the Procurement department to ensure timely delivery of goods/spares to the vessels to support quick vessel turnaround. Monitor and analyse the technical status of all vessels and submit a summary to the Executive Chairman. PMS - Development and implementation Ensure that all maintenance jobs are properly logged onto the PMS by the vessel managers. Follow up on status of open tasks. Analyse vessel and equipment breakdowns and develop additional maintenance activities to fill maintenance gap that could have prevented breakdown. Conduct periodic vessel inspections and share VIR report with TechOps and Root Cause investigations Register defects that are subject for root cause investigation. Analyse reason for reoccurring/frequent equipment failure. Provide evidence-based conclusion on if the reason is human error, maintenance gap, knowledge gap or equipment quality. Implement process improvements or maintenance procedures to fill gap. Analyse operational reports to identify potential causes of defects, investigate reported defects and ensure corrective & preventive actions are taken to sustain vessel availability Budget Management Liaise with the Vessel managers to develop annual budgets for the maintenance of the fleet. Monitor budget spends to ensure cost effective vessel operations and maintenance Monitor the fuel consumption of vessels and report any variations from the makers specific fuel consumption standard. Monitor the lube oil consumption of the vessels. Analyse same and submit monthly reports to the EC Special Projects, Dry dock preparation, Repair operations, Monitoring, Analyses Work with the vessel technical managers to prepare comprehensive dry-dock scopes and duration, ensuring minimal disruptions to vessel’s operating schedule. Source for cost effective and qualified dry-dock vendors. Ensure dockyard, ship builder and other parties involved in the dry-dock collectively and individually endorse the planned dry-dock duration schedule. Ensure critical parts needed for the dry-dock are in the company warehouse or with the dry-dock vendor prior to commencement of the dry-docking exercise. Supervise the dry-docking of all vessels in conjunction with the vessel technical managers. Management of critical spares list (store & vessel) and inventory management process including minimum restocking levels, to ensure an optimal mix of cost efficiency and continued vessel availability REQUIREMENTS 10-15 years’ experience as a Marine Engineer Previous work experience as a Technical Superintendent is a mandatory requirement for this position Offshore sailing experience is an added advantage. Technical Superintendency license is required for this role Valid COC is an added advantage
