Blasting Operator


We are looking for a Blasting Operator to work at our busy surface coatings facility at Milton Keynes,

As a Blasting Operator, you will be responsible for blasting machine parts, customer tools and panels. You will be accountable for checking customer blasting requirements, correctly reading, and following route cards, drawings and instructions, of the relevant blasting operations.

You will also be accountable for following Health and Safety rules and procedures that we set in place. You will be required to work both early and late shifts on a rotational basis.

Your Responsibilities

  • Adhering to all quality requirements and working methods as stipulated by ITAR, NADCAP , ISO Health and Safety and any other applicable standard or regulatory body.
  • Blasting of machine parts, panels, and tooling to Oerlikon requirements and to ensure that this is done meeting deadlines as defined by Supervisors/Mangers.
  • Blasting of customer parts to meet their requirements, following route cards, instructions, drawings and instruction of Supervisors/Managers.
  • Ensuring that any damage spotted, instruction or quantity discrepancy of parts is immediately communicated to supervisors/managers.
  • Storing of parts and tooling in a safe and secure manner, in correct location.
  • Correctly deciphering route cards, Part forms, specifications and engineering drawings ensuring: coating type, tool type, material, line quantities, correct delivery dates, are used to correctly create production batches to the production plan and to Oerlikon Balzers Standards for coating operations. Notification & documentation of any discrepancies or damage to supervision and customer services.
  • Loading blasting machines, trolleys, sorting and storing tooling or parts correctly as deemed appropriate by your supervisor and to the defined Oerlikon standards.
  • Signing the route card, checking the quantity and blasted areas are correct and that all parts are free of blasting media upon arrival at coat.
  • Posting Operations, correctly, signing the route cards and ensuring rigorous traceability is achievable via the MRP system.
  • Ensuring that agreed customer promises for delivery dates are met, prioritising orders by agreed priorities then date order, as detailed on the route card, or as instructed by coating operators/supervisors/managers.
  • Ensuring the equipment and areas used are kept clean and serviceable, and that all equipment is put into the correct places.
  • Taking part in 5s activities including the organisation of the workplace and ensuring a smooth efficient flow of work.

  • Dexterity, able to work handling varied and numerous parts
  • Willing and able to work shifts

Desirable Skills

  • Basic Engineering qualification
  • Ability to read an engineering drawing.
