What you will do

The successful candidate will function as a design engineer in the engineering department at Silent-Aire. The successful candidate should possess 2 or more years of experience and ideally should have some experience or an interest or previous experience in acoustics. Training will be given; however, the important thing is that the successful candidate has an interest in sound measurement and the collection of acoustic performance data primarily for large industrial equipment for inclusion in Technical Submittals.

The successful candidate will work as part of a Design Engineering team and will collaborate with both the manufacturing engineers and the client teams to ensure bid and technical submittals are completed. This is an exciting opportunity for a task driven engineer to work on a variety of challenging and innovative HVAC projects primarily in the Data Centre and Semi Conductor industry.

This position requires a candidate to have good drive and interpersonal skills to coordinate with other design and manufacturing engineers and collaborate with other departments to deliver a full design package and submittals. They should be a team player who enjoys working as part of a wider design engineering group and who enjoys working in a collaborative environment.

How you will do it

  • Provide technical mechanical and acoustic design support to senior engineers within both the engineering and sales department.

  • Support project execution.

  • Be willing to learn new skills and share their knowledge to grow the team's collective knowledge.

  • Communicate and interact with internal and external clients to resolve technical queries.

  • Selection and design of custom air handling equipment and modular data centers including:

  • Design of Acoustic attenuation for custom air handling equipment to client's specifications.

  • Collection of performance data with focus on reducing noise pollution which can cause environmental issues.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to integrate acoustical considerations into the overall product design process.

  • Design of computer room air handling units and the required Attenuation to client specifications.

  • Selection of fans, coils and other key equipment components associated with air handling equipment and compiling BOM's.

  • Provide assistance for the costing of AHU units and components and additional requirements around attenuation.

  • Production of equipment drawings and submittal packages.

  • Production of construction drawing package

  • Perform acoustic measurements and vibration testing using specialized equipment, interpreting results and recommending design improvement.

  • Document and communicate acoustic design, analysis, and test data results.

  • Assist with the development of new and innovative product lines and refinement of existing products.

  • Interact with production and manufacturing and perform periodic inspections of units under construction.

  • Participate in continuous product improvement.

  • Be involved in many aspects of the business including support for estimating, Factory Witness Testing, Business development and sales, production improvements and marketing.

What we look for

  • Mechanical engineering degree (BSc. Eng., B.Eng. or similar).

  • Knowledge of how to implement and mitigate noise reduction techniques.

  • Four plus years of related experience in mechanical or HVAC design, including some acoustic design knowledge.

  • Proficient with drafting in AutoCAD and or Inventor; demonstrated knowledge in proper drafting standards and practices.

  • Exudes confidence and tact in interacting with clients and colleagues.

  • Has the ability to interact positively with outward facing clients.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Self-starting, ability to manage multiple tasks on strict deadlines.
