Role Overview:
On behalf of North Lincolnshire Council, we are looking for 4 experienced HGV Class 2 Drivers to support the Waste Services (Refuse Collection) team.
As a Waste Operative (Driver), you will serve the local community by carrying out duties related to the removal and/or disposal of household, industrial, and commercial waste and recycling. This is a career-graded role (Grade 3/4/5), and while predominantly a driving position, work may also be undertaken across the following areas:

Waste collections

Waste transfer stations

Household recycling centres
Key Responsibilities:
-
Drive HGV Class 2 refuse/stillage vehicles (approx. 80% of the role)

Operate bin lifting and refuse collection equipment safely

Drive vans and small collection vehicles (up to 7.5 tonnes)
-
Conduct daily vehicle checks and ensure all records are completed
-
Supervise and support a small team of loaders (1 5 employees)
-
Use in-cab technology and/or paper records for reporting

Engage with customers to provide advice and manage queries/complaints
-
Identify and address contamination issues
-
Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient work at all times
Essential Criteria:
-
HGV Class 2 Licence (Category C)
-
Completed Driver CPC training
-
Digital Tachograph Card
-
Experience managing or working as part of a small team
-
Good verbal and written communication skills
-
Ability to use IT/data systems and complete records accurately
-
Capable of walking several miles per day and operating machinery
-
Strong manual handling and customer service skills
-
Ability to work under pressure, use initiative, and meet deadlines
-
Knowledge of local area and waste/recycling services
Desirable:

WAMITAB qualification in a relevant subject area
Working Environment:

Outdoor work in all weather conditions

Physical demands including lifting, manoeuvring bins, and walking long distances

Exposure to highway risks and challenging public interactions

Expected to respond to service disruptions (e.g., weather, roadworks)
Supervision and Decision-Making:

Shared supervision of 1 5 loaders

Decision-making on re-routing, issue resolution, and safe working practices

Work guided by procedures but may require on-the-spot judgement
