Site Engineer

We are currently seeking an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to support delivery across a portfolio of highways, cycleway infrastructure, and heavy civil engineering projects. This role is ideal for a proactive engineer with strong setting-out experience and a solid background working on complex infrastructure schemes. Working closely with the Site Agent and Project Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately, and in line with project specifications. Key Responsibilities - Setting out and surveying works for highways, cycleway construction, and heavy civils packages - Interpreting technical drawings and ensuring works are delivered to specification - Managing QA documentation including ITPs, check sheets, and as-built records - Coordinating subcontractors and site teams to maintain programme and quality standards - Carrying out site surveys and producing accurate setting-out data using total stations/GPS equipment - Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements - Assisting with temporary works coordination where required - Supporting progress reporting and site documentation Requirements - Proven experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering projects - Background in highways, cycleways, or heavy civils infrastructure - Strong setting-out capability using Leica, Trimble, or similar survey equipment - Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications - Experience with QA processes and site documentation - CSCS Card (essential) - SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable) - HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or related discipline Key Skills - Excellent attention to detail - Strong problem-solving ability on live construction sites - Effective communication with site teams and subcontractors - Ability to work independently as well as part of a project team
