Tomlinscote School – Biology Teacher (Maternity Cover) – Job Description The Science Department The Science Faculty is a highly respected and successful part of the school. It consistently achieves excellent outcomes at GCSE and is housed in 11 fully equipped science laboratories. Practical work is a core strength of the faculty, supported by an outstanding team of science technicians operating out of two preparation labs. Staff well-being is central to our culture, and we provide: * Mentor support for new staff * Free annual eye test * Onsite catering & discounted gym membership * Free counselling services Job Description – Science Teacher (Biology Specialism) Reporting To Head of Department / Faculty Lead / Head of Year Key Accountabilities 1 – Teaching & Learning * Deliver high-quality Biology and Science lessons across the allocated timetable. * Follow and apply Health & Safety procedures in Science laboratories. 2 – Assessment & Reporting * Assess students according to school, departmental and exam board requirements. * Provide written and oral feedback for individuals and groups. * Communicate with parents as required through school systems. 3 – Support & Guidance (Form Tutor Responsibilities) * Provide pastoral care for a tutor group. * Monitor academic progress and provide support where required. * Encourage full participation in school life. 4 – Additional Duties * Undertake any reasonable additional tasks required by the Principal. * Comply with all Trust and school policies including safeguarding, pastoral care, Health & Safety, security, confidentiality and GDPR. Person Specification – Teacher Essential * Relevant degree + Qualified Teacher Status * Evidence of successful training to teach the required age range * Strong subject knowledge and understanding of curriculum requirements * Ability to assess progress effectively and adapt teaching * Strong behaviour management * Ability to differentiate learning for diverse needs * Effective communication skills
