Environmental Protection Officer

A local authority in The East of England are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to support their team. What’s on offer? * Competitive hourly rate: £40–£45 * Part time - 15 hours * Initial contract duration until the end of March, with potential for extension * 2 days on site Role Overview & Requirements * Hands-on experience in environmental health, preferably within a council environment * Investigate public complaints involving noise, smoke, odours, light pollution, and other statutory nuisances * Carry out inspections of homes, businesses, and industrial sites to identify environmental issues * Apply and enforce relevant legislation, including the Environmental Protection Act 1990 * Collaborate with planning and licensing departments to assess applications and provide environmental health guidance * When necessary, issue legal notices, compile case documentation, and initiate enforcement actions, including prosecutions
