Job Purpose To deliver high-quality, personalised teaching to primary-aged pupils with SEN, ensuring each child receives the support, structure and opportunities required to reach their full potential. The role requires creativity, patience, strong behaviour management and a passion for SEN education. Key Responsibilities Teaching & Learning * Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with SEN (including ASC, SEMH, ADHD and communication needs). * Create a positive, structured and emotionally safe learning environment. * Use a wide range of strategies to support pupils with diverse needs, including visual timetables, sensory regulation techniques and individual learning plans. * Employ trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches to behaviour. * Use formative and summative assessment to track pupil progress and adapt teaching accordingly. * Work closely with the SENCo to implement EHCP outcomes and personalised support plans. Behaviour & Pastoral Support * Establish strong, nurturing relationships with pupils to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour. * Use proactive approaches to behaviour management, avoiding escalation and maintaining consistency. * Support pupils with transitions, anxiety management and day-to-day pastoral needs. * Promote independence, resilience and self-esteem through positive reinforcement. Classroom & Learning Environment * Maintain a calm, organised and SEN-friendly classroom space. * Use visual supports, structured routines and clear communication to aid understanding. * Ensure that safety, safeguarding and wellbeing procedures are always adhered to. Collaboration & Professionalism * Communicate effectively with parents, carers and external professionals. * Participate in team meetings, training and INSET development sessions. * Contribute to wider school life, events and enrichment activities. * Follow school policies on safeguarding, behaviour, assessment and professional conduct. Person Specification Essential * QTS or equivalent recognised teaching qualification. * Experience of teaching primary-aged pupils. * Experience working with children with SEN (ASC / SEMH / ADHD / Speech & Language). * Strong behaviour management and a calm, flexible approach. * Ability to differentiate learning to meet diverse needs. * Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. * Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities. * Resilience, creativity and a passion for SEN education. Desirable * Experience working in a specialist or alternative provision environment. * Experience supporting children with complex or high-level needs.
