Job Title: Electrical Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) Discipline: Electrical – Stations, Lighting, and Low Voltage (LV) Systems Location: London Contract Type: Permanent Role Overview The Electrical CRE will act as the lead technical authority for electrical works across stations, with responsibility for ensuring that all lighting, power distribution, and LV system designs, installations, and integrations meet project requirements, standards, and compliance obligations. This role requires strong knowledge of rail/station environments, safety assurance, and delivery of LV electrical systems from design through to commissioning. Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership * Serve as the appointed CRE for electrical works, ensuring all activities comply with relevant technical standards, codes of practice, and project governance. * Review and approve design documentation, drawings, calculations, and method statements for station LV and lighting systems. * Provide technical guidance to engineers, designers, subcontractors, and site teams. Stations, Lighting & LV Systems * Oversee the design, integration, and installation of: * Station LV distribution systems (e.g., switchboards, panel boards, distribution boards). * Station and platform lighting systems, emergency lighting, and control systems. * Earthing and bonding systems. * Containment systems (cable trays, trunking, conduits). * Ensure lighting schemes meet rail, safety, and environmental standards. * Manage load assessments, fault level calculations, and LV protection coordination. Compliance & Assurance * Ensure designs and installations comply with relevant standards (e.g., BS 7671, Network Rail standards, BS EN lighting standards). * Produce and review engineering assurance documentation, including CRE Certification, ITPs, test plans, and handover packages. * Participate in design reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs, and technical audits. Project Delivery * Support the planning, sequencing, and safe execution of electrical works. * Lead resolution of technical issues during construction and commissioning. * Coordinate with other disciplines (Civils, M&E, Telecoms, Fire, Signalling) to ensure system integration. * Manage contractor performance and ensure quality of installation. Stakeholder Management * Act as the technical interface with clients, designers, principal contractors, and assurance teams.Provide progress updates, technical input, and risk assessments to the project leadership team. Skills & Qualifications Essential * Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. * Proven experience working as a CRE or similar senior electrical engineering role in rail or station infrastructure. * Strong knowledge of station LV systems, lighting design, and installation requirements. * Familiarity with BS 7671, Network Rail standards, and relevant electrical/lighting regulations. * Experience managing engineering assurance and technical approvals. * Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and lighting layouts. * Strong communication and coordination skills. Desirable Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward chartership. Experience with DNO/IDNO interfaces. Competency with lighting software (e.g., DIALux, Relux). PTS or rail safety certification. Experience in both design and construction phases. Personal Attributes Detail-oriented with strong engineering judgement. Proactive problem solver with ability to work independently.
