ASSISTANT MANAGER Our client is an independent garden centre business, based in West Sussex, now seeking an Assistant Manager to join their business. The role will include: - * oversee and supervise the efficient running of the Shop area on a Day – Day basis * To do everything to drive the sales and profitability forward of the shop area * To ensure the agreed retailing and operational standards are always maintained Responsibilities: * To open up & close as & when required by the business * To cash up as per the Cash – up – Rota * To do everything to drive the existing unique trading model * To maintain strength of value message – Price Buster, Lowest Price * To drive the selling activity of Indoor Products * To supervise the internal team to ensure they all perform to a high standard * To ensure the team have appropriate work lists and achieve what is expected * To ensure each member of the Team are highly productive and fully always occupied * To conduct the necessary staff coaching and training to develop the individuals * To ensure all trading checks are completed at the agreed frequency * To manage daily breaks and lunches to ensure Shop Area sales cover * To ensure quality of stock within the department is maintained and rotated * To ensure all stock is maintained in a clean, tidy, and undamaged state * To manage and control wastage according to the guidelines laid down * To prepare orders for stock to meet the expected levels of trade * To merchandise and display stock according to the agreed principals * To create, seasonal, impulse promotional linked displays, as appropriate * To proactively serve and help customers in need of assistance, resolving queries/ complaints. And to seek the necessary assistance if you are unable to resolve yourself * To actively sell other goods encouraging link sales and up-sales wherever possible * To offer specific service and advice to customers on all gardening related enquires. And to seek the necessary assistance if you’re unable to help * To ensure that display equipment is maintained to a professional standard * To take and process customer orders and the advice customers on receipt of goods * To ensure all tasks are carried out in a timely manner * To maintain discipline / harmony amongst the team * To undertake any reasonable tasks requested by your manager * To complete all necessary paperwork in an accurate and timely manner * To work in other departments on a temporary basis if required to do so This would suit someone from a seasonal retail business or knowledge of gardening products. Driving licence is essential
